Winter/Spring 2024 Youth Education Classes

Mini Michelangelo’s | K-2nd | Thursdays | 4-5 pm

January 11, 18, 25: Glowing Stars
Using a combination of acrylic paint and colored pencil, students will learn to create a glowing shooting star scene with a hint of self-portrait.

February 8, 15, 22: Popsicle Architecture!
Using popsicles, young artists will create approximately 10 modules (shapes) with white glue. Students will paint and later construct their building with the help of the instructor with hot glue.

March 7, 14, 21: Slab and Coil Bookends
Students will create a pair of bookends using slab, coil, and pinch pot techniques! Projects will be glazed and left to dry/fire in the kiln and will be ready to pick up approximately 14 business days following the completion of the class. Please note that pieces must be picked up within two months.

April 4, 11, 18: Shape Printmaking
Using recycled styrofoam and other various printing tools, students will “carve” with a pencil geometric, organic, and free-form shapes into the foam to create printmaking blocks. Students will then learn to ink, roll, and print their designs to create a one of a kind artwork

 

Art Club | 3rd-6th | Tuesdays | 4-5 pm

January 9, 16, 23: Neon Signs
Using acrylic paint and colored pencils, students will layer and blend to create a life-like neon sign on a black 2D surface.

February: 6, 13, 20: Wooden Architecture
Using popsicles and other scrap wood, art club students will explore how to create a three-dimensional building. Students will use a mix of white glue and hot glue with instructor supervision, followed by finishing with acrylic and metallic paint.

March: 5, 12, 19: Clay Bookends
In this unit, students will create a pair of bookends based on a theme. They will learn to use various hand-building techniques like coiling, slab building, and pinch pots to create a functional form. Projects will be glazed and left to dry/fire in the kiln and will be ready to pick up approximately 14 business days following the completion of the class. Please note that pieces must be picked up within two months.

April: 2, 9, 16: Printmaking in Lines
Intaglio techniques can be used to create images that beautifully combine line, value, and texture. This class will serve as an introduction to all the basic techniques of intaglio printmaking using plexiglass plate and printmaking ink on paper.

 

Teen Art | 7-12th | Wednesdays | 4-5 pm

January 10, 17, 24: Neon City
Explore the process of painting a city scene at night. Students will focus on a glowing scene of car lights and neon signs, learning the process of acrylic painting with saturated colors on a black surface.

February: 7, 14, 21: 3D Architecture
Using balsa wood, popsicles, and other scrap wood, teens explore how to create a three-dimensional building. Students will use a mix of white glue and hot glue with instructor supervision, followed by finishing with wood stain.

March: 6, 13, 20: Functional Art Bookends
In this unit, students will create a pair of bookends based on a theme, exploring half-and-half designs, opposites, duos, and matching sets. They will learn to use various hand-building techniques like coiling, slab building, and pinch pots to create a functional form. Projects will be glazed and left to dry/fire in the kiln and will be ready to pick up approximately 14 business days following the completion of the class. Please note that pieces must be picked up within two months.

April: 3, 10, 17: Intaglio Printmaking
Intaglio techniques can be used to create images that beautifully combine line, value, and texture. This class will serve as an introduction to all the basic techniques of intaglio printmaking using plexiglass plate. Teens can expect to walk away with a small edition of two-color prints.

 

$36/ $48 for a 3-week course 

Participants must register by the Wednesday one week before the class, no exceptions.  Registration is based on what grade your child is going into in the 23-24 school year.
