Youth and Family Art Education

How do I register?

  • Call our Box Office at 712-332-7013 and ask to sign your child up for the specific class title or sessions. Over the phone we can take your basic information along with a payment to reserve your child’s place in the class.
  • Stop in to the Pearson Lakes Art Center at 2201 Hwy 71, Okoboji, IA 51355 and our BoxOffice can sign you up. Payment is needed at the time of registration at least 1 week prior to the start of the class.

Welcome to the Drawing and Sculpting Series where every two weeks teens will focus on how to create the human form. Students will be introduced to drawing a specific theme the first week, and then learn how to sculpt it out of clay the second.

Ever wonder how Pigasso met Moottisse or how one dot could lead to a whole painting? Join PLAC Staff Select Thursdays in a variety of PLAC galleries as they take us on a reading journey that connects books to the world of art. Relate the stories to the art by learning how to see new things, imaginary games, and other fun interactions inside the gallery. Adult must be present with children ages 1 – 5 years.

A free program for teens in grades 9 – 12, the Dickinson County High School Art Society is an opportunity for teens in Dickinson County to meet artists, view changing exhibitions, create their own art, explore performing arts, studio visits, interact with fellow high school students, create public art projects, and a whole lot more! For more information, email education@lakesart.org.


Family/Group Spring Courses

 

“Blown Glass” Sculptures

February 3   |   10 am – 3 pm

Non-Members: $10   |   Members: $8

Register for a time slot by February 1

Take inspiration from artist Dale Chihuly’s blown glass sculptures as we learn how to create similar plexiglass sculptures using an oven. Decorate 8×10 plexiglass sheets with sharpie marker and be amazed how this 2-D material heats up to a 3-D sculpture in the matter of minutes! Estimated project length of one hour.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


Doily Dream Catchers

March 3   |   10 am – 3 pm

Create a beautiful dreamcatcher using new and recycled fiber materials! Participants will learn how to wrap, attach doily, weave, tie, and create add-ons for their own group or individual dream catcher! Estimated project length of one hour.
